M.A. in Educational Psychology

Program Purpose

The M.A. in Educational Psychology is awarded to students pursuing knowledge and research in educational psychology directed at either the professional practice of educational psychology or the development of new knowledge in educational psychology, or both. Students develop these skills within the context of various program areas such as counseling psychology, school psychology, and learning sciences.

Learning Outcomes

  • A broad understanding of the science of psychology and its application to specific educational and psychological problems (the exact problems vary by program)
  • An understanding of the nature of the student’s particular program, including how knowledge is created in that program area and how practice is conducted in that program area
  • The ability to conduct supervised research, as demonstrated by the successful completion and defense of the master’s thesis
  • Successful demonstration of skill in a foreign language, as demonstrated by passing the graduate school’s foreign language requirement
